One thing we are passionate about is the need for constant enlightenment and education on Obstetric Fistula. Did you know that 90% of Obstetric Fistula is caused by Prolonged and obstructed labour? Other risk causes include Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Poor access to medical care, Harmful traditional practices, Early marriage and child bearing, Lack of education, poverty etc. It is often characterized by foul smelling vaginal dis-charge, incessant discharge of urine and faces, pain during sexual intercourse. Treatment of obstetric fistula is typically by surgery. Counseling is also important as women who experience obstetric fistula suffer constant shame and social segregation.
